Spain is one of the world's leading destinations in the tourist industry, but there is much more to this country than just beaches and islands.

The real Spain is not made up of apartment blocks, themed bars and restaurants, hugging over crowded beaches. What a hideous sight. Certain areas of coast line are hugely over developed.

Instead visit some of the more remote areas of coast line, say from Gibraltar up to the Portuguese border, or head inland. There are plenty of huge lakes to swim in and play water sports.

Generally the further away from the tourist hell holes on the Mediterranean coast the nicer the people and the better holiday you'll have.

This is the beach at Tarifa. One of the windiest beaches in the world. A mecca for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Not a tourist in sight!
