Hello,

Has anyone been to Japan?

I have been to Nagoya and Tokyo. Both places are slightly different. Nagoya is more laid back (by Japanese standard). The people there are more friendly too.

Tokyo is a very busy city. The amount of lights at night is just incredible. I stayed in Shinjuku while in Tokyo. I heard the place is quite sleazy at night. But I didn't notice anything of that sort though.
I am going to Tokyo in a few years. I hope it is a great place and worth the visit. Can anyone recommend any hotels I Can Stay in or other places?
I can't remember the name of the hotel that I stay in. But, no matter where, Tokyo is an extremely expensive city to live in.

Also, language is a problem. Most Japanese cannot understand English.

If you are an Asian, that is even more confusing. Because, they will think that you are Japanese and talk to you in Japanese.
I went to Narita Japan on 2001. You can found a lot of unique things here but i agree with guppyman language always will be a problem to you when you visit a place like Japan or China. Even my face totally not looks like japanese or chinese but they still talk to me with their language.
i have never been to japan...
i know if there are unknown people, the language problem is definitely...

Taking two years of the language at a university will probably be enough for you to be able to ask directions, buy tickets, and get yourself around the area. Yet, if you're looking to be conversational in Japanese, I believe it will take longer than two years.

I went there with my girlfriend, who is Korean, and knows no Japanese. They were very surprised when they would speak to her in Japanese and I would answer!

Never been to Japan. Though it is a wonderful place and very much advanced, I dread going there becuase of the food habits. I mean I cannot eat like them and then i can't sustain everyday on Bread and milk, by the way i hope there is cow's or buffalo's milk Smile
i also never been to japan but thinking to been there 1 day.. i want to see the drifting in japan is a no. 1 sports at japan..
I have never been to Japan but I will go there. Now I am learning Japanese because I am not confident if going there without knowing their language. It is a nice country to visit Smile
I've heard a lot from friends who have actually been there and I wish could make it as well. My constraint is on the budget limitation since I heard it's quite expensive especially on the accommodations. Perhaps languages barrier is also a problem since Japanese don't really communicate in English. Hmm...any thoughts to overcome this?
