The Millenium Dome opened at huge public expense on January 1, 2000, as part of millennium celebrations but was condemned as a white elephant after failing to attract expected visitors.

The venue has experienced a reversal of fortunes since AEG, owners of David Beckham's team LA Galaxy, took over. Relaunched in last June by Bon Jovi, O2 (previously Millenium Dome) was recently described in London's Daily Telegraph as "the best music venue in the world, overtaking New York's Madison Square Garden".
